I tweet and blog under my real-life identity. I believe this is a privilege. I also tweet and blog as my whole, integrated self*. ‘Whole’ means that I do not shy away from saying what I believe, or from controversial topics, and ‘integrated’ means I do not compartmentalize, that is, I do not keep my many personal and professional hats in separate hat boxes. Because of this, it’s important to say this clearly:

Unless stated otherwise, I do not speak for my employer (MDIBL), my funders (including but not limited to the NSF), or my projects (including but not limited to BioTrails and The HMS Beagle Project).
